News
February 2010 -- Education And More announces plans to help one of the Fair Trade
artisan groups with funds and manpower to build new outhouses for each of the families.
The existing outhouses are extremely crude and unsanitary, so the building of new ones
will improve the health of the families as well as the community. Please watch for more
news on this project.
November 2009 -- An interest free micro-credit loan was given to one of our Fair
Trade artisan groups to build a new store building. The new store will give the women
the opportunity to display and sell their handcrafts on a continuing basis to the touists
that visit their village. This is an important step for the group in growing their business!
November 2009 -- Education And More was recently granted membership into the
Fair Trade Federation. We are proud to have this designation and glad to be working
with the Fair Trade Federation in supporting and implementing Fair Trade
Guidelines. For more information on Fair Trade Federation see their website.
January 2009 -- Artisan Group Grants Given -- 4 artisan groups received grants from Education And More this
year. They were chosen based on information in their applications as to how the money would be used and how
it would benefit the group. Grant money is vital to help the groups expand their business. Education And More
uses the profits from handcraft sales and other donations to give out grants.
September 2009 -- Food Shortage in Guatemala -- There have been many reports recently of widespread food
shortages in the dry areas of eastern Guatemala and the situation is now critical. Staple food crops such as
corn and beans have been seriously affected by the drought and the food shortage is now affecting nearly
400,000 people and has claimed 410 lives since the first of the year according to Guatemala's president. Nearly
50% of the children of Guatemala suffer malnutrition which stunts their growth and affects their ability to learn.

Education And More is working hard to sell more handcrafts which in turn gives our artisan families more
income. We have raised our Fair Trade hourly wages because of the economic situation in Guatemala. Please
keep the Guatemala people in your prayers and consider buying or hosting a bazaar to help our artisan groups.

May 2010 -- Guatemala was devastated by the Tropical Storm Agatha with many lives
lost, hundreds of homes washed away, crop lands flooded and suffering throughout
the country due to the massive amounts of rain they received. Our partner artisan
groups have sustained much crop loss and damaged to their homes. Crops will have
to be replanted so they will have food for the coming year, homes will need to be
repaired and rebuilt, water lines repaired and help given in replacing stored food that
was lost in the flooding. . Education And More is asking for donations for disaster
relief to help alleviate the suffering.
