Paying fair wages to the artisans so they are able to care for their families, educate their children and improve their lives. Fair wages are determined according to wages in the local or regional area and through discussions with the groups. Many Fair Trade organizations work directly with artisan groups and artisans helping them in a variety of ways and developing close, long term relationships. Giving the artisans advance credit if needed. Giving assistance in areas of product and organizational development and helping to improve business and management skills Education of the public and consumers about Fair Trade. Help artisans develop production methods with better environmental practices and long term sustainability. No child exploitation. Help artisans develop safe work habits and workplaces. Working in partnership to develop trust in all aspects between our organization and the Artisan Group. Transparency is especially important in building that trust. |
